Overview
Hodgkin's lymphoma, also known as Hodgkin's disease, is a cancer of the lymphatic system characterised by the presence of distinctive Reed-Sternberg cells and typically arising in lymph nodes of the neck, chest, or armpit before spreading in an orderly fashion to adjacent nodal regions. It is distinguished from the larger and more heterogeneous group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas by its specific cellular hallmarks and generally favourable response to treatment, which commonly combines chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Staging, histological subtype, and patient age all influence prognosis and management. Within this field the journal publishes peer-reviewed research on Hodgkin's lymphoma in low-income settings, including the experience of Togo, and on treatment outcomes and questions of success in paediatric Hodgkin lymphoma, alongside studies of related lymphoid disease. This includes non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes and treatment outcomes in resource-poor settings, the cytological diagnosis of lymphoid lesions by fine-needle aspiration, lactate dehydrogenase as a marker of disease in childhood lymphoma, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, and rarer entities such as MALT and Lennert lymphoma. Together these topics situate Hodgkin's lymphoma within the broader diagnosis, classification, and management of lymphatic malignancies, with particular attention to presentation and care in low-resource environments.
