Overview

Arabidopsis thaliana, commonly known as thale cress, is a small flowering plant in the mustard family that serves as the foremost model organism in plant biology. Its short life cycle, small and fully sequenced genome, prolific seed production, and ease of genetic manipulation make it ideally suited for studying plant genetics, development, physiology, and responses to the environment, and discoveries made in Arabidopsis frequently inform understanding of crop and other plant species. It is widely used to dissect the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation, hormone signaling, stress responses, and growth.
