Overview
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that causes immunodeficiency in humans. It leads to a severe form of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV epidemiology is the study of the health effects of HIV on individuals and populations over time. It involves monitoring the spread of HIV (infectious HIV viruses) among individuals and populations, as well as understanding the factors that are associated with its transmission. HIV epidemiology plays an important role in research and public health measures, as it can identify high risk populations, inform public health policies, and help guide the development of medical interventions. It is essential to the prevention of the spread of HIV and to the development of effective treatments for those infected.
