Overview
Phylogenetic analysis is the reconstruction of evolutionary relationships among genes, organisms, and other taxa from comparative data, producing phylogenetic trees that represent patterns of common ancestry and divergence. It draws on molecular sequence data, morphological characters, and, where available, fossil evidence, and employs methods including distance, maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference, often supported by sequence alignment and bootstrap assessment of node support. Beyond depicting descent, phylogenetics informs molecular evolution, protein-domain conservation, microbial taxonomy, pathogen surveillance, and the dating of evolutionary events. The peer-reviewed research collected here reflects these themes through phylogenetic study of RBM45 protein-domain conservation and gene architecture across Metazoa, genetic-diversity and phylogenetic-tree analysis based on morphometric traits in chilli, and identification and expression analysis of disease-resistance genes in strawberry. Microbial and molecular contributions examine eukaryotic signature proteins, molecular surveys of coral symbionts, genotypic diversity among Salmonella isolates, characterization of thermophilic enzymes, and bacterial strain identification. The application of bioinformatics in biotechnology further situates phylogenetics within computational analysis. Methodologically, the literature draws on sequence analysis, molecular typing, morphometric and expression data, and bioinformatic tools, illustrating how phylogenetic analysis connects genetic variation, evolutionary history, and functional classification across plants, animals, and microorganisms.
