Overview
Autoimmune disease is a condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. It is caused when the immune system mistakes healthy cells for harmful substances and begins to attack them. Symptoms differ depending on the affected tissue but can include fatigue, joint pain, skin rashes and inflammation, and organ dysfunction. Autoimmune diseases are serious and can be life-threatening if left untreated. Early detection, proper diagnosis, and treatment are important in managing the disease and preventing further complications. With effective management, people with autoimmune diseases can lead healthy and active lives.
