Overview

The field of neuroscience is an extremely broad and multidisciplinary area of research that encompasses both cellular and molecular approaches. Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system and how it works, from the molecular level all the way up to the behavioral level. The nervous system is a complex network of cells that allows us to perceive, process and respond to the world around us. It is composed of billions of individual cells, or neurons, which communicate with each other through specialized synapses. Neuroscience is devoted to understanding how these neurons work and how they are connected to form the intricate circuitry of the brain. At the molecular and cellular level, neuroscience research examines the mechanisms that underlie neuronal communication, how synapses are formed and how they are maintained, and how genes and proteins contribute to brain function. Neuroscience research also investigates the cellular and molecular basis of neurological disorders and diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, and what can be done to address them. Overall, neuroscience research is critical for understanding how the brain works, what goes wrong in neurological disorders and diseases and how they can be treated. With new techniques and technologies being developed all the time, neuroscience is an exciting and rapidly growing field that is driving the study of the nervous system forward.
