What Membership Is
Membership pays article processing charges in advance instead of one invoice at a time. That is the whole of what it does.
The journal is open access, so publication is funded by an article processing charge raised after acceptance rather than by subscriptions. For an author or a department publishing several papers over a year or two, settling that in advance turns an unpredictable series of invoices into a single budgeted item, and removes the administrative work of raising each one.
Membership is entirely optional. Authors who do not hold a membership are not treated differently at any stage, and the standard charge on the article processing charges page applies to them in the ordinary way.
Membership leaves the journal’s standard peer-review model and review timeline unchanged, with manuscripts evaluated under the same scope, screening, review, and editorial-decision criteria applied to all submissions. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. A membership covers a charge that arises only if a manuscript is accepted on those grounds; a manuscript that is declined is never invoiced, with or without a plan.

The institutional plans state their allowance as a number of accepted manuscripts. For the individual and student plans the journal does not publish a fixed number: the allowance is set when the application is reviewed and is confirmed in writing before enrollment. Ask for that figure before committing, and compare it against the standard charge of USD 1,200 per accepted manuscript.
What a Plan Includes, and What It Does Not
Included

- Coverage for co-authors affiliated with the membership holder, within that allowance
- Guidance on reporting standards, ethics statements and data-availability statements
- Access to language and formatting support
- Centralized invoicing and documentation for a finance or library office
- A membership certificate
Outside a Plan
- Special issues, which are arranged separately from the standard submission track
- Any charge arising after the allowance for the term is used
- Withdrawal charges, which follow the terms on the article processing charges page
Term and Renewal
- Benefits are used within the active term and do not roll over unless the agreement says so
- A renewal confirmed before the term ends is discounted by 10%
- A plan may be upgraded during its term under a revised agreement
Applying
Applications go to the editorial office, which confirms eligibility, the rate and the allowance in writing before enrollment.

- State the journal and the plan and term you are asking about. Student applicants include the supervisor's letter confirming student status.

- Give the billing address and the person who will administer the membership.

- The office confirms eligibility, the rate and the article allowance before enrollment. Read that confirmation before paying.

Bringing Work to the Journal
Membership is a way of paying, not a way of submitting. Manuscripts from members and non-members arrive by the same routes and are assessed on the same terms.
