About the journal
A journal exists to hold a field's record in one place. This one holds the record of how tissue is repaired and regenerated — the biology of it, the materials and methods built to support it, and the clinical practice that draws on both.

Why the journal exists
Tissue repair and regeneration are studied from two directions at once. One asks how a tissue restores itself: which cells move, which signals are sent, how matrix is laid down and remodeled, why the process stalls in a diabetic wound and runs to scar in a fibrotic one. The other builds things — scaffolds, cell preparations, devices, surgical strategies — and asks what a living tissue does with them.
Those two directions are often published apart. A materials study goes to a materials journal, a wound-biology study to a cell-biology journal, and the clinician who needs both reads neither. This journal was established to keep them in one record, on the principle that a scaffold means little without the tissue that received it, and a tissue response means little without knowing what was applied.
The journal has been publishing under ISSN 2640-6403 since 2017.
The disciplinary role it takes
Its scope covers both fundamental biological processes and applied technologies, and it treats neither as the senior partner.
- Fundamental work stands on its own
- A study of signaling in myofibroblast differentiation, of matrix remodeling, or of how regenerative capacity changes with age belongs here on its own terms, and qualifies on the strength of what it explains, with or without a clinical application.
- Applied work is a contribution in its own right
- Characterizing a material, building a model, developing a measurement method or reporting a reproducible procedure is a contribution in its own right, and is assessed as one.
- Observation, replication and synthesis are contributions
- Descriptive and observational studies, work that confirms or fails to reproduce an earlier result, and reviews that consolidate a body of evidence are all part of what a field needs in order to know what it knows.
- Clinical and translational work closes the span
- Case reports, clinical series and translational studies place the rest of the record against patients and practice, which is where the questions usually originate.

Who the journal is for
Its readers are the people who work on either side of that correspondence, and the people who have to move between them: researchers in repair and regeneration biology; biomaterials scientists and tissue engineers; investigators working with animal models, organoids and organ-on-chip systems; specialists in immunology, vascular biology and the extracellular matrix as they bear on healing; computational and methodological researchers; and clinicians in reconstructive, wound, implant and regenerative practice.
Because the journal is open access, that readership reaches beyond the institutions that hold a subscription. Every article is free to read and to reuse with attribution, anywhere.
How editorial responsibility is carried
A record is only as good as the judgment applied to it. That judgment belongs to named people, working to published criteria, independent of what anyone pays.
- A named board
- Editorial responsibility rests with an identified editorial board whose members and affiliations are published, each with a profile. See the editorial board.
- A stated review model
- All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- Stated decision criteria
- Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
- Independence from payment
- Editorial decisions remain independent of fees, membership, and editorial or reviewing roles. Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions, and those manuscripts are handled independently.

Open access, and what it costs
Articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0. Authors keep copyright; readers may reuse the work, including commercially, provided they attribute it. Open-access publishing is funded by an article processing charge of USD 1,800, invoiced after acceptance rather than at submission, so the charge falls due only once a manuscript has been accepted.
