Journal of Tissue Repair and Regeneration welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams working across tissue repair and regeneration.

What the journal is looking for
Work that makes a substantive contribution to understanding, assessing or advancing the repair or regeneration of tissue. That contribution can take more than one form, and one form is enough.
Mechanistic insight, clinical or translational evidence, methodological development or evaluation, observational or descriptive characterization, replication, and synthesis all qualify. A manuscript is not asked to be novel, mechanistic and clinically applicable at once; it is asked to say what it contributes and how.
Where submissions are welcome
These are the areas the journal assesses. Work that clearly advances tissue repair or regeneration is welcome whether or not it is named among them.
- Mechanisms of repair and regeneration
- Signaling in healing, stem and progenitor cell biology, matrix remodeling and fibrogenesis, cell survival and growth-factor biology.
- Inflammation, immunity and vascular response
- Immune control of healing, macrophage and stromal behavior, angiogenesis and revascularization, the tissue microenvironment.
- Wound healing and tissue pathophysiology
- Acute and chronic wounds, impaired and diabetic healing, scarring, fibrosis, barrier restoration and mechanobiology.
- Biomaterials and scaffolds
- Design, synthesis and characterization, degradation behavior, hydrogels and composites, bioprinting, surface functionalization, biocompatibility.
- Tissue engineering and regenerative therapies
- Engineered constructs across organ systems, vascularization strategies, cell therapy, and gene and molecular engineering applied to repair.
- Hard tissue, dental and implant interfaces
- Bone and cartilage repair, osteointegration, implant surfaces, and tooth, periodontal and other oral tissue regeneration.
- Models, imaging and measurement
- In vitro systems, organoids and organ-on-chip platforms, animal models, imaging and histology, including work whose contribution is the method.
- Computational and data-driven approaches
- Modeling of tissue mechanics and repair dynamics, machine learning applied to regenerative questions, computational biomaterial design.
- Translational and clinical research
- Preclinical and translational studies, reconstructive approaches combined with regenerative strategies, clinical series, case reports and trials.
Comparative work in plant and other non-animal systems is read for the insight it gives into repair and regeneration in animal systems. This remains a journal of animal and human tissue. The aims and scope covers each domain and how neighboring fields are read.
What to prepare
Manuscript formats, preparation requirements and the submission checklist are set out in the instructions for authors, which is the authority for what a submission needs. If you are preparing a format other than a full research article, write to the editorial office first and it will confirm what that format requires.
In the cover letter, explain the contribution to tissue repair or regeneration and its biological, methodological, translational, or clinical relevance, as applicable.
How a submission is handled
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They remain independent of fees, membership and editorial or reviewing roles.
Accepted articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0, funded by an article processing charge of USD 1,800 invoiced after acceptance. The charges page sets out what it covers and the withdrawal terms.
