Overview
Public health encompasses the organized efforts of society to protect, promote, and restore the health of populations through disease prevention, health education, policy development, and environmental interventions. Research published in this journal addresses diverse dimensions of public health across multiple geographic contexts and health challenges. Studies examine infectious disease management, including HIV disclosure practices in pediatric antiretroviral treatment settings in South Africa and the public health risks posed by disease vectors such as Aedes albopictus mosquitoes and freshwater snails in endemic regions. The journal has published investigations into cardiovascular disease knowledge and health facility data quality in Rwanda, alongside assessments of community health needs in urban settings. Food safety research explores aflatoxin contamination in dairy products, while emerging public health threats are examined through studies on e-cigarette-associated oropharyngeal cancer risks and climate change impacts on population health. Additional work addresses tobacco control strategies, organizational partnerships between health and social services, and the intersection of military service with humanitarian disaster relief. This body of research reflects the multifaceted nature of public health practice, spanning prevention, surveillance, health systems strengthening, and responses to both established and emerging threats to population wellbeing.
