Overview
Children are individuals in the developmental stages from infancy through adolescence, representing a population with unique health and nutritional needs that differ substantially from adults. Research published in Pediatric Health And Nutrition on this topic addresses critical aspects of child health across diverse settings and conditions. Published studies examine malnutrition manifestations including wasting severity in therapeutic feeding programs, vitamin deficiencies such as vitamin D and B12 deficiency resulting from inadequate dietary intake, and the relationship between helminth infections and both malnutrition and hematological parameters. Infectious disease research has explored risk factors for persistent diarrhea in children under five years and documented clinical presentations of COVID-19 across newborns, children, and teenagers. Additional work has investigated developmental and behavioral dimensions, including feeding problems in children with autism spectrum disorders, young children's comprehension of fluid intake needs, and resilience-building strategies for youth with ADHD. Studies have also addressed diagnostic challenges such as internal jugular phlebectasia presenting as neck masses and examined HIV diagnosis disclosure practices in pediatric antiretroviral treatment settings. This body of research underscores the importance of understanding children's specific vulnerabilities and developmental considerations in delivering appropriate healthcare and nutritional interventions.
