Overview
In the context of child and adolescent health, schools are formal educational settings that function as critical environments for shaping health behaviors, delivering preventive interventions, and influencing the physical, nutritional, and psychosocial development of young people. Because children spend a substantial portion of their day in school, these settings are a strategic platform for nutrition policy, infectious-disease control, immunization, physical-activity promotion, and health education, as well as a site where social determinants such as food access, hygiene, and exposure to risk behaviors converge. School-based programs are widely used to address childhood overweight, dietary quality, communicable disease transmission, reproductive and sexuality education, mental health, and the early identification of conditions affecting learning and wellbeing. The peer-reviewed research gathered here in the journal's Pediatric Health And Nutrition corpus reflects these themes, spanning school reopening and face-mask adoption during COVID-19, premenstrual syndrome among secondary-school students, regulation of foods offered to schoolchildren, intestinal parasitic infection in primary-school pupils, adolescent sexuality and HIV-prevention education, barriers to physical activity and healthy eating, bullying and harassment data, children's understanding of hydration, and substance-use determinants among students. Together they situate the school as a central setting for safeguarding pediatric health and shaping lifelong behaviors.
