Biography

Dr. Baohong Zhang is a Professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, United States, with an extensive research portfolio focused on plant molecular biology and genome editing technologies. His work encompasses the application of CRISPR/Cas9 systems for crop improvement, particularly in cotton and other economically important plants, as well as the functional analysis of microRNAs and small RNAs in plant stress responses and development. Dr. Zhang's most-cited publication, "CRISPR/Cas: a Nobel Prize award-winning precise genome editing technology for gene therapy and crop improvement" (2021), has received 158 citations and reflects his contributions to advancing precision genome editing methodologies. With over 53 indexed publications, his research integrates transcriptomics, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics to elucidate gene regulation mechanisms underlying abiotic stress tolerance, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, and fiber development in crops.
