Artery

An artery is a type of blood vessel responsible for carrying oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body’s tissues. Without arteries, the body would not be able to function as oxygen and nutrients cannot be transported without these vital pathways. They are composed of layers of tissue and are thicker than veins due to their increased pressure from the heart. They can also be elastic and contract to regulate blood pressure.
