Platelet Activation

Platelet activation is a process by which dormant platelets are transformed into an active form that can perform important functions in clotting the blood. In this process, multiple molecules, such as adhesion molecules, surface receptors, and enzymes, are involved. Platelet activation plays an important role in both the normal clotting process and the development of thrombosis, a condition in which clots form in the blood vessels and can cause serious health complications. Platelet activation is also a target for therapeutic intervention to prevent and treat thrombotic conditions. As such, it is an important area of scientific research and medical interest.
