Overview

Animal veterinary sciences encompass the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and injuries in domestic, production, and companion animals, together with the basic and applied research that supports animal health. The field integrates clinical practice with disciplines such as pathology, microbiology, reproduction, and pharmacology to improve welfare, productivity, and the prevention of infectious and non-infectious disease. Research in this area spans oncology in companion animals, including neoplastic involvement of bone marrow and the immunohistochemical and pathological characterization of canine mammary tumors and osteosarcoma, as well as infectious disease, such as the identification and antifungal susceptibility of dermatophytes in cats and dogs and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia. Production-animal science features prominently, including reproductive performance after treatment in dairy buffalo, in-vitro maturation of bovine oocytes, and the immune response of calves to vaccination under field conditions. The field also addresses experimental and toxicological models, such as the effects of environmental compounds on reproductive tissues, and regenerative approaches to bone healing. Sub-areas include veterinary oncology and pathology, infectious and parasitic disease, animal reproduction and theriogenology, and veterinary immunology and preventive medicine. By combining clinical care with diagnostic and experimental investigation across species, animal veterinary sciences advance the health and welfare of animals and support safe and productive animal husbandry.
