Overview

Cattle are domesticated bovine animals raised primarily for milk, meat, and other products, and their health management is a major component of Veterinary Healthcare and the livestock industry. Veterinary care for cattle encompasses the prevention and control of disease, reproductive management, nutrition, and the treatment of conditions that affect productivity, welfare, and food safety. Because cattle are kept in herds and often in close contact with people and other animals, infectious and parasitic diseases are a central concern, including bovine tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium bovis, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, foot-and-mouth disease, hydatidosis, gastrointestinal parasites, and tick infestations. Reproductive performance is equally important, covering fertility improvement, estrous synchronization, and the postpartum recovery of dairy cows. Research relevant to this journal addresses immune responses to Mycobacterium bovis infection and BCG vaccination in cattle and calves, reproductive performance and management in dairy herds, uterine involution and ovarian activity after calving, the prevalence and economic impact of bovine diseases, parasite burdens across breeds and regions, control strategies for tick infestations, and the use of cattle dung in biogas production, reflecting the interconnected health, productivity, reproductive, and public-health considerations that define veterinary care for cattle.
