Overview

Veterinary medicine is the branch of health science devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, disorder, and injury in animals, spanning companion animals, livestock, exotic species, and wildlife. It combines medical and surgical disciplines, including internal medicine, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging and pathology, oncology, orthopedics, and reproductive medicine, with preventive care such as vaccination, nutrition, and herd-health management. Practice rests on a thorough understanding of comparative anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and microbiology across diverse species, each with distinct disease susceptibilities and therapeutic considerations, and it extends beyond individual animal care to food safety, zoonosis control, and public health. The peer-reviewed research in this area reflects this clinical and surgical breadth, addressing canine mammary tumors and their histopathological markers, periosteal osteosarcoma and phylogenetic analysis of canine osteosarcoma, gastric dilatation-volvulus risk factors, comparison of laparoscopic and open surgical approaches with assessment of cardiorespiratory parameters under anesthesia, platelet-rich fibrin and nanoparticle therapy for bone defects, reproductive management including treatment of retained placenta in dairy buffalo, dermatophyte infections in cats and dogs, and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia. By integrating evidence-based diagnosis, surgical and medical therapy, and preventive practice, veterinary medicine safeguards animal health and welfare while supporting agriculture and human public health.
