Editorial Process Details
Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, your manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by our editorial team within 3 business days. We evaluate scope alignment, methodological soundness, and adherence to submission guidelines. Manuscripts are screened using iThenticate plagiarism detection software; submissions with similarity indices exceeding 30% are returned for revision before peer review.
Peer Review Assignment
Manuscripts passing initial screening are assigned to an editor with expertise in your research area. The editor selects 2-3 independent reviewers who are active researchers in immunization science, ensuring your work receives informed, constructive feedback. We employ single-blind peer review, where reviewer identities remain confidential to authors.
Review Process
Reviewers are given 21 days to evaluate your manuscript for scientific rigor, methodological validity, significance to the field, and clarity of presentation. They provide detailed comments and recommendations regarding publication suitability. Our editorial team monitors review progress and sends reminders to ensure timely completion.
Editorial Decision
Based on reviewer recommendations, the editor makes one of four decisions: Accept (rare for initial submissions), Minor Revisions (requiring small changes), Major Revisions (requiring substantial modifications), or Reject. You receive the decision letter with anonymized reviewer comments, typically within 28 days of submission.
Revision and Re-review
If revisions are requested, you have 60 days to submit a revised manuscript with a point-by-point response to reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts undergo expedited re-review (typically 14 days) focusing on how adequately you addressed the concerns raised. Most manuscripts require one revision cycle before acceptance.
Acceptance and Production
Accepted manuscripts enter our production workflow, where they undergo copyediting, formatting, and quality checks. You receive proofs for final approval before publication. The entire production process takes approximately 10 days, after which your article is published online with a DOI and becomes immediately accessible worldwide.
